Myths about Mosquito Protection de-bunked!

Myths about Mosquito Protection de-bunked!

When it comes to avoiding mosquito bites – or treating them once you’ve got them – there are lots of conflicting opinions, and reading any blog online will give you all manner of advice. For example, a simple Google will bring up people who swear by DEET-based repellents, and people that argue against them in their entirety. Natural repellents are available these days which are just as effective as DEET but with many other health benefits.

What it also shows is that people can’t decide between the advice, and so end up buying a protection that might not work for them! Baring in mind that 20% of people are more susceptible to mosquito bites just thanks to their genetics, and also that other factors such as how long ago you last had a shower or did some exercise can all result in becoming more of a target to the pests, it’s a huge problem in travel that needs to be resolved.

Below are some of the most common mistakes people make when buying mosquito repellent, and how you can avoid them.

  1. You might not know where to start with purchasing your protection

Here at THEYE, we’re bug repellent experts. But it’s not always the simplest purchase to make. There are a variety of products available - our whole range demonstrates that and offers everything a customer could ever need - so how do you choose one? It’s not a case of one-size fits all, so it’s really essential that you look at the active ingredients and the % of repellent in the product, many low cost options offer very low amounts of active ingredient so are not effective or only last an hour or two. A simple Google will let you know which bugs will cause a problem in the area you’re travelling to, and which active ingredients will repel them the most. At Theye all our direct skin application methods are suitable for use where Malaria and other insect transmitted diseases are present. Always read the label and the instructions for application to understand when, how and against which insects should be used and choose the best option for you.

  1. You might be applying it all wrong

When you’re on holiday, you’ve got your sun protection and mosquito protection to apply before heading out for the day. Many people will do this all at the same time, Which you can do this with Theye’s range as they are natural Citrepel based. If you use a DEET based product this is not possible and would be recommend against as it will stop your suncream from working. If you’re likely to be on a holiday which requires you to be out of the hotel sharpish, it might be best to consider one of our mosquito bands - which doesn’t need direct application to skin and take the Micro spray in your pocket or bag to apply when on the go which will provides all of the repellent protection you will need.

  1. You might be putting far too much on!

You should apply your repellent all over areas of your skin that are exposed, but don’t make the mistake of over-applying. Contrary to common belief, applying this more heavily will not provide better or longer-lasting protection. A good product will work with the recommended application level, and not require constant re-application or overuse to be effective. Our extra strong cream offers 8 hours protection from a single application.
